Internet
Marketing For Beginners Part I
For a lot of
people with no experience of building and marketing websites, the idea
of starting a home based business on the Internet seems like an almost
impossible dream.
Yet, starting an Internet business has never been easier for complete
beginners, whether you are looking at starting a website from scratch
with free start-up service such as weekly.com, or with a pre-designed
site with everything "plugged in" and setup for you such as the Plug-In
Profite Site, or if you are looking for a complete package that will
take you through the process of building and marketing your website
with a service such as sitebuildit.com, to name just three popular
website building services that will save you the expense of having to
pay somebody to build you a website.
In each of the three examples that I have just cited, and in many
others that are available on the Internet, you can either have a
website built for you, or you can build it without needing to know
anything about HTML or any other website building language. Clearly,
starting an Internet business is not as difficult as you might imagine.
But what if you don't have a product to sell?
Fortunately for you, there are many companies out there which offer
Internet-based affiliate programs where you can earn commission on the
products that you sell through your website. An ideal way to start is
to begin with something that interests you, especially something that
you have built up a degree of knowledge about and that is likely to
have a viable online market to pitch to.
Some research on Google and other places may give you an indication of
whether or not your area of interest has anything to offer from an
Internet marketing point of view.
One free Google tool that you can uses the Google Keyword research tool
at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. This tool
will show you how many searches have been made for particular search
terms on the Google search engine.
For example, if you are interested in the idea of selling stamps from
Hungary on the Internet, you could check the search term "Hungarian
postage stamps" using this tool, only to discover that fewer than fifty
searches a month are made for that term. As far as making money on the
Internet goes, there does not seem to be much potential for Hungarian
postage stamps at the time of writing this article.
On the other hand, more than 200,000 searches per month are made for
the term "postage stamps", so a complete beginner may struggle to get
his or her website seen against so much competition.
In short, the more specific your area of interest is, the easier it
will be for you to attract targeted traffic to your website, because
there will be fewer sites competing for the traffic. However, you want
to make sure that there is still enough traffic for you to be able to
build a business with. There need to be at least one or two thousand
searches per month for the terms you are chasing.
In my next article I will look more closely at how you can use keywords
to help you build your website and attract a natural flow of traffic to
it.
As we have seen in this article, when it comes to starting an Internet
business, there are plenty of services out there to help you get a
website up and running even if you have no prior experience of building
a site, and there are even more products on the market that you can
sell on your site to generate affiliate commissions.
